Khalil Gibran Research and Studies Project
The Kahlil Gibran Research and Studies Project is established in 1991-92 under the Center for International Development and Conflict Management at the University of Maryland (CIDCM), College Park. It is designed to explore Gibran's life and works, and, through them, address moral and social determinants of public justice and peace.
Scholars working under the auspices of the Gibran Project study matters of cultural pluralism; human rights; and the role of the arts, poetry and literature in promoting international communication and cooperation. These studies emphasize the enduring human values which Gibran advocated in his writing and which are essential to the creation of a world vision based on the principle of "unity in diversity". The Kahlil Gibran Research and Studies Project is dedicated, therefore, to advancing studies about political and moral healing in a world beset by conflict and confused by a rapid change in the human condition.
Gibran's belief in the "unity of being", his awareness of continuity, his call for universal fellowship and the unification of the human race—these retain their potency today as do the messages of all great poets. In his life and work, inspired by his experiences as an immigrant in an adopted land, he resolved cultural and human conflict, developing in the process a unique consciousness, transcending the barriers of East and West as few writers have done before or since.
The organization is planning a Second International Conference and will
post more information as it becomes available. Please visit their
website which has great resources about Gibran.

Our vision for our community is to create a bridge that connects future generations of Lebanese Americans with their roots, while strengthening our ties with the American society. It is this vision of our ever-evolving heritage that has inspired the LAF to establish a "House of Lebanon" in Southern California. Our goal is to create a place where people of different ages, religions, and political prospective can meet, socialize, and enjoy sharing in Lebanon's unique culture. The LAF is committed to generating progressive and functional programs to address the specific needs of our community and our friends, free of religious or political influence. Our dream for the House of Lebanon is to be a place of pride for all our people. |

Inspirational Story:
Take this quiz:
1- Name the 5 wealthiest
people in the world.
2- Name the last 5 Heisman trophy winners.
3- Name the last 5 winners of the Miss America contest.
How did you do? The point is these are no 2nd rate achievers, they are
the best in their fields.
But achievement are forgotten except to those who earn them.
Take this Quiz
1- Name 5 people who have taught you something worthwhile.
2- Name 3 friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3- Think of the people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
Easier? The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most
credentials,
the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones who care.
Be that person for someone else.
