Here is one of their recent press releases about operation "Peaceful Home"
ALNM Woman's Committee launches
operation "Peaceful home"
The Woman's Committee has launched what
may become the single most important project the American Lebanese National
Movement (ALNM) will take on over the next few months. Operation "Peaceful
Home" is the first of many projects the Woman's Committee has on its agenda.
It is an aggressive and ambitious move to help secure adequate funding and
resources for a woman's shelter that has so far survived on very limited
resources.
Mrs. Eliane Sfeir Marcos, Chairwoman of
the Woman's Committee is taking operation "Peaceful Home" to Lebanon as
early as mid July. The Community of Maryam and Martha (CMM), a woman's shelter
that has absorbed, counseled and rehabilitated over 120 women and 25 children
over the last five years, is scheduled to have their annual Fundraising event on
July 22nd, 2005. "The need of CMM is two-fold," Stated Mrs. Marcos;
"Not only do they need the most basic resources to maintain operation, but they
also need major funding to finish building their Rehabilitation Center which is
aimed to help more women and children. We must all come together, men and women,
to help the women in need. These women are basically our mothers, sisters, wives
and daughters. "
Miriam Habib, Miss Lebanese Emigrant 2003
and Chairwoman of the Youth Committee will join Mrs. Marcos at the Fundraising
event. "This is very important to me as a young woman," stated Miss. Habib. "It
breaks my heart to know that many Lebanese women are enduring domestic violence,
abuse, incest or neglect. It is so difficult to believe that this can be
happening in our own country. But it is and we must face that reality. We want
these women to know we are here for them and that we will do whatever it takes
to keep their safety net well protected."
ALNM is working to bring hope to those who
have none. "It is sad when your neighborhood shows no love or compassion for the
wounded women of our country," stated Mrs. Marcos; "Peaceful Home" will
soon launch a massive fundraising event in Houston to support the Community of
Maryam and Martha (CMM)
www.cmmlebanon.org.
We call on all Lebanese and friends of
Lebanon worldwide to join our efforts to put an end to domestic violence, abuse,
incest and neglect in our Lebanese homes. Being indifferent to domestic violence
is a crime in and by itself."

Home, contact Mrs. Eliane Sfeir Marcos, Chairwoman of the Woman's Committee at
