Rassemblement Canadien
pour le Liban (RCPL)
RCPL is a
Canadian registered non-profit organization, with a mission to promote Canadian
values mainly
human rights and democratic principles as well as peace and development in
Lebanon. RCPL is a non-religious organization with no political affiliation.
RCPL is based in the Montreal region and has a great visibility within the
Lebanese community of Montreal,
which is the largest in Canada.
This pacifist gathering of Canadian and Lebanese-Canadian volunteers, is a
dynamic group focused on research programs and development projects, in order to
influence and sensitize Canadian officials and organizations concerned about the
situation in Lebanon.
RCPL is by far the most active Canadian-Lebanese NGO in the human rights field,
and has gained significant recognition from the Lebanese community in Montreal,
as well as local NGOs and officials.
During the first quarter of 2003, RCPL achieved the following milestones:
1- In March 2003, and following RCPL's request, the Canadian Department of
Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa, held a workshop dedicated to
the situation in Lebanon.
Representatives from different NGOs were informed about this workshop. Many
representatives of Lebanese NGOs in Montreal were present. The outcome was very
positive and the intention is to pursue the dialogue.
2- Released several studies describing the humanitarian situation in Lebanon.

3- The Human Rights Division of RCPL released in March 2003, its annual report
on the state of Human Rights and Democracy in Lebanon which is also available on
the website.
4- - The "legal counseling program" for immigrants and refugees was launched,
and has already assisted four cases.
5- The development division of RCPL is currently working on initiating
development projects in collaboration with other NGOS in Canada and Lebanon.
6- Success in establishing alliances and contacts with key persons, NGOs in
Canada and Lebanon.
7- A considerable growth of RCPL's supporters by 15 %.
