Featured Organization  Rassemblement Canadien pour le Liban (RCPL)

RCPL is a Canadian registered non-profit organization, with a mission to promote Canadian values mainly
human rights and democratic principles as well as peace and development in Lebanon.  RCPL is a non-religious organization with no political affiliation.   RCPL is based in the Montreal region and has a great visibility within the Lebanese community of
Montreal, which is the largest in Canada.

This pacifist gathering of Canadian and Lebanese-Canadian volunteers, is a dynamic group focused on research programs and development projects, in order to influence and sensitize Canadian officials and organizations concerned about the situation in
Lebanon.  RCPL is by far the most active Canadian-Lebanese NGO in the human rights field, and has gained significant recognition from the Lebanese community in Montreal, as well as local NGOs and officials.

During the first quarter of 2003, RCPL achieved the following milestones:

1-  In March 2003, and following RCPL's request, the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa, held a workshop dedicated to the situation in
Lebanon. Representatives from different NGOs were informed about this workshop. Many representatives of Lebanese NGOs in Montreal were present. The outcome was very positive and the intention is to pursue the dialogue.

2-  Released several studies describing the humanitarian situation in Lebanon.  See website.

3-  The Human Rights Division of RCPL released in March 2003, its annual report on the state of Human Rights and Democracy in Lebanon which is also available on the website.

4-  - The "legal counseling program" for immigrants and refugees was launched, and has already assisted four cases.

5- The development division of RCPL is currently working on initiating development projects in collaboration with other NGOS in Canada and Lebanon.

6- Success in establishing alliances and contacts with key persons, NGOs in Canada and Lebanon.

7- A considerable growth of RCPL's supporters by 15 %.

RCPL invites you all to  visit their website at www.rcplonline.org, so they can share their analysis and studies with you.

RCPL is made up of a group of professionals  who are organized and dedicated.  They volunteer their time for this cause.  They have a specific goal and an action plan.   If you can contribute to the studies or data, or if you have any suggestions or wish to network and exchange ideas  please contact them at info@rcplonline.org.  We congratulate them on their accomplishments and great work
