Website Update- Information Needed

Scholarship Information- We have received requests from Lebanese Students who are here on student visas and unable to work.  If you know of any American Lebanese organizations who can help please let us know so we can refer such requests.  There are many scholarships available but such students do not qualify as they are here on a student visa.  Of course these organization can request transcripts or any other info from such students.

Language resources:  Other requests we have received are from 2nd and 3rd generation individual wishing to learn the Lebanese language.  If you know such resources please send us this information so we can share.

Information resources: Please send us sites, links and resource to share with individuals doing research on Lebanon, specifically on the diaspora.

Featured American Lebanese- Dr. Dimitri Azar

We received the following nomination: I would like to propose Dr. Dimitri Azar for your list of World Famous Lebanese in the Medical Profession:

Dr. Dimitri Azar, who is on Unite For Sight’s Executive Board of Advisors, is a Harvard Professor of Ophthalmology, Associate Scientist at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, and Director of the Corneal, External and Refractive Surgery Services as Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Azar has more than one hundred journal publications about corneal, anterior segment, and refractive surgery. His current research projects include
the molecular basis of corneal scarring and avascularity during wound healing, as well as refractive surgical innovations and the mathematical basis of laser surgery. 

Dr. Azar's family comes from Roumieh near Broummana.  It is a pleasure to add him to our list of prominent Americans of Lebanese origin.

A few months ago we posted an event announcement about Mr. Michel El-Ashkar who performs a one man play about the Life of Kahlil Gibran.  Ms. Jacki Skeels, a writer and a teacher who lived in Lebanon during the 1982-83 school year,  sent us a theatrical review of his performance in Los Angeles, California.  You can read it under Letters and Articles 2003.  Thank you Jacki.
