Friends vs Lebanese Friends

Friends: Never ask for food.
Lebanese friends: Always bring the food.

Friends: Will say "hello."
Lebanese friends: Will give you a big hug and a kiss.

Friends: Call your parents Mr. and Mrs.
Lebanese friends: Call your parents Uncle/Dad and Aunt / Mum.

Friends: Have never seen you cry.
Lebanese friends: Cry with you.

Friends: Will eat at your dinner table and leave.
Lebanese friends: Will spend hours there, talking, laughing and just being together.

Friends: know a few things about you.
Lebanese friends: Could write a book with direct quotes from you.

Friends: Will leave you behind if that's what the crowd is doing.
Lebanese friends: Will kick the whole crowds' ass that left you.

Friends: Would knock on your door.
Lebanese friends: Walk right in and say, "I'm home!"

Friends: Are for a while.
Lebanese friends: Are for life.

The Time is Now

If you are ever going to love me
Love me now, while I can know
The sweet and tender feelings
Which from true affection flow
Love me now, While I am living.

Do not wait until I am gone
and then have it chiseled in Marble
Sweet words on ice cold stone.
If you have tender thoughts of me,
please tell me now.

On Leadership  7/7

The challenge of leadership is to:
Be strong, but not rude;
Be kind, but not weak;
Be bold, but not bully;
Be thoughtful, but not lazy;
Be humble, but not timid;
Be proud, but not arrogant;
Have humor, but without folly.

Confidence, Trust & Hope  3-07

*CONFIDENCE:
Once upon a time, all people in a village decided to pray for rain, On the day of prayer all people gathered
BUT only one boy came with an Umbrella......that's confidence.

*TRUST:
Trust should be like the feeling of a one year old baby when you throw
him in the air, he laughs.....because he knows you will catch him........

*HOPE:
Every night we go to bed, we have no assurance to get up alive the next
morning but still we have plans for the next day.

BE CONFIDENT; TRUST OTHERS; AND NEVER LOSE HOPE.

Touching words  Dec 06

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will.
You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time.
You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken.
You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did.
You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love.

So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt
because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.
Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.

Enjoy each moment

First I was dying to finish my high school and start college.
And then I was trying to finish college and start working.
Then I was dying to marry and have children.
And then I was dying for my children to grow.
But then I was dying to retire.
And now I am dying and suddenly I realized that I forgot to live.

Appreciate your current situation and enjoy each day.
Remember to Live, Love and Laugh.

Inspirational Story:
Never Violence- The Peace Rock

This is a story told by Astrid Lindren, who is the author of Pippi Longstocking books.

"Above all, I believe that there should be never be any violence.  In 1978, I received a peace prize in West Germany. In my acceptance speech which I called: "Never Violence" I told this story from my own experience.

When I was about 20 years old I met an old pastors wife who told me that she was young when she had her first child but she didn't believe in striking children.  Although striking kids with a switch pulled from a tree was a standard punishment in those days.  One day when her son was about five, he did something that she felt warranted spanking.  She told him that he would have to go outside and find a switch for her to hit him with.

The boy was gone for a long time.  When he came back he was crying and said "Mama, I couldn't find a switch, but here is a rock that you can throw at me."  All the sudden the mother understood the situation from his point of view, that if my mother wants to hurt me, then it makes no difference what she does it with.  She took him into her arms and cried.  The she laid the rock on a shelf to remind her forever; never violence."

Holiday message- Jan 2005

This prayer was posted on Dear Abbey or a similar column. It expresses great sentiments that we feel the cedars site tries promotes.  It is well worth sharing and it is a great way to start the new year.

We remind you to please continue to send us information, links, and articles to build up this site as a resource for our friends and families and please continue to share it with others.

Happy New Year.

Let us pray:

That strength and courage abundant be given to all who work for a world of reason and understanding.

That the good that lies in each of our hearts may day by day be magnified.

That we will come to see more clearly not that which divides us, but that which unites us.

That each hour may bring us closer to a final victory, not of nation over nation but, of ourselves over our own evils and weakness.

That the true spirit of Christmas, its joy, beauty, hope and faith be among us.

That the blessings of peace be ours, the peace to build and grow, to live in harmony and sympathy with others, and plan for the future with confidence.

On hope: From a speech by Vaclav Havel- Dec 2004

"I am not an optimist, because I am not sure that everything ends well.  Nor am I a pessimist, because I am not sure that everything ends badly.  I just carry hope in my heart.  Hope is a feeling that life and work have a meaning.  You either have it or you don't, regardless of the state of the world that surrounds you.

Life without hope is an empty, boring and useless life.  I cannot imagine that I could strive for something if I did not have hope with me.  I am thankful to God for this gift.  It is as big a gift as life itself".

Sand and Stone- Aug 2004

A story tells of two friends who were walking through the desert.  During
some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the
other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without
saying anything, wrote in the sand:  TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a
bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire underwater and
started drowning, but the friend saved him.  After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:  TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.

The friend asked, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone; why?"

The other friend replied, "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where the winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

Learn to write your hurts in the sand and your blessings in stone.  Do not value the things you have in life. Value who you have in your life.
